ROYDEN PARK WALK AUGUST

 12 AUGUST 2015 WEDNESDAY

On a bright sunny morning Bob Powell led 4 members and 3 friends on circular walk from Royden Park.   the route took us over Thurstaston Hill, and over field tracks to the old village of Caldy and down onto the Wirral Way.   After a brief stop at Cubbins Green to take on water and enjoy thge view of the Dee Estuary we left the Wirral Way at West Kirby village and passed the Ring O Bells Pub and ascended sixty five steps to the Mariners Monument for a panoramic of West Kirby, Hilbre Island and the North Welsh coast.   We continued along Caldy Hill through gorse, heather and woodland to the view point and the monument to Sir Alfred Paton who present the area to the Public in 1929.   We continued into Stapledon Wood via a host of small paths to emerge onto the A540 and to return to Royden Park via open field paths.   Reg Armstrong's mileage gizmo telling our mileage and we were surprised to log 7.5 miles for a scheduled 6.5 miles walk.   No wonder we were tired when we got to the Cottage Loaf Pub for a late Lunch where we met up with Ken and Irene Potter and Audrey Nield.   What more could we ask, a glorious sunny day, an interesting walk and good company.   Thanks to Bob Powell  for the photos and itinery
